Frequently Asked Questions

Prepare for Laser Hair Removal treatment.

Day of appointment – Don't apply any oils, moisturizers, or creams to your skin.

1- 2 days before – Closely shave the treatment area.

3 days before -  Gently exfoliate to help remove any dead skin cells from hanging out around the opening of your hair follicles.

7 days before – avoid chemical peels, laser resurfacing treatments or lighten cream.

2  weeks before and after – avoid tanning including fake tan and sun exposure.

Never remove your hair by waxing, epilating or tweezing as the hair follicle must be present for the laser to attract pigment.

What happens if you don't shave before laser hair removal? Lasers heat hair to damage the stem cells in the hair follicles to inhibit new growth, but if the hair is too long, the laser can singe your hair and burn your skin. It is extremely important to shave before your laser hair removal session, twenty-four hours before it is recommended.

After treatment

Skin may appear red and bumpy for 24 - 48 hours post treatment.

Things to avoid – direct sun exposure and fake tan.

Avoid the gym, spa and sauna for 24 hours. Do not pluck or wax hair. The hair will naturally come out during exfoliation.

How does laser hair removal work?

SHR or Super Hair Removal uses low energy and rapid pulsing diode laser but at a higher frequency. Soprano ICE technology allows the skin to be heated gently, but with the rapid pulses, the energy is then accumulated by the skin. While 50% of the energy is targeted at the melanin (similar to IPL), the other 50% targets the stem cells responsible for hair production. SHR is most effective during the active growth phase (anagen stage of hair growth).

Does it hurt?

SHR feels like being passed over by shots of warm air.

Can i get blond hair removed?

Blonde, grey, white and  red hair do not respond to treatment. Laser hair removal cannot treat these colours as they do not produce any pigment.

How many treatments required for laser hair removal

It depends on several factors, determines how many sessions might be needed. Individual hair thickness, skin type, gender, age, hormone levels, medical history and the areas being treated can all cause variations in the length of time it takes for the laser to destroy the hair follicle. Laser hair removal does not work immediately. Typically the hair that is in the hair follicle may take a week or two to fall out after the laser treatment. During the treatment, you may notice a little singe on the hair from the laser energy being absorbed by the hair follicle. When the hair heats up from the energy, it injures the cells below the surface of the skin that create and grow the hair.  That injury makes the hair stop growing and within about a week or two, you will notice those hairs disappear from the hair follicle.  After a month or two, some of the hair will recover and start growing again, but it will usually be thinner and more fine.  At this point you are ready for another treatment. Please shave prior to your laser treatment to make sure that the hair is only in the hair follicle and not laying on the skin.  You want all that energy to be absorbed in the Hair follicle where it will be effective in destroying those cells that generated the hair.

What is the difference between the Buttocks and the Behind treatment area?

The buttocks are the whole bum cheek region and Behind is the anus area.

How often do i need to get hair laser removal?

Depending on the hair, skin type, and body area being treated, recommend the treatments at 6-8 weeks intervals. For the facial area, the growth cycle is faster, treatments should be done in 2- 4 week intervals.

The hair reduction will vary depending on what stage your follicles are in at the time of the treatment. After each treatment hair is reduced hence it is important to complete the entire recommended course of treatments at consistent intervals for best results. We recommend a series of 8-12 treatments and maintenance treatments every 3 months for permanent hair reduction.

However, laser hair removal is unsuccessful for women who have hormonal imbalances. With PCOS, hair growth is persistent and resilient.
